A run through of the technologies and the belief I have behind their uses.
During my time working as a media developer / designer in Greece, i have had the opportunity to work with and become familiar in the use of many technologies / applications.
Ranging from print design, web media, desktop media, animation (2D and 3D), programming, video etc etc, the list is long.
Although I am very familiar with a majority percentage of the programs / platforms etc, I still only see them as a tool, a stepping stone you could say. These programs are designed to help you achieve your goal, concept and create a stunning final product, where many people are confusing them with "These programs can do anything". Yes, the applications do provide you with the ability to create many things, and the outcome can be mind blowing, but I never see them as the birth place of creativity or ideas, rather, a way to enable the creativity process, and let brilliant ideas take flight.
So. after that, lets take a look at the programs / software I have worked, and still work with.
Print design
Adobe Photoshop (advanced)
Adobe Illustrator (advanced)
Adobe Indesign (advanced)
Quark Express (I used to work with this, but swapped to Indesign)
Adobe acrobat professional (advanced, for print preparation)
Interactive
Macromedia Flash (advanced, design and programming, actionscript, XML, PHP & mySQL interaction)
Macromedia Director (advanced, design and programming)
Macromedia Dreamweaver (advanced, although i dont use this to actually build websites, its a handy tool to let you see what you are doing, and to give you a visual aid, I usually build sites by coding them myself with CSS)
PHP, mySQL (dont forget to include flash in this combination, letting flash call data from databases is a great way for dynamic rich media on the web)
HTML, CSS (advanced)
Javascript (advanced)
Video and motion
Adobe Premiere (advanced)
Adobe Aftereffects (advanced)
3D studio MAX (advanced)
Poser studio (character animation, advanced)
Macromedia Director (yes that is corret, director can do some amazing 3d with its new 3d engine)
Swift 3D (advanced, 3d flash animation)
There additional applications and software to add to the list, but i dont find it necessary to put them all down.
In general, due to my background in Art and computer studies, if it is a good tool, and can enable the creative process, i will learn it.
Thats all folks !
